The Soldier Boy from Lena

Presented in a large format, 360 page leather bound edition, The Soldier Boy from Lena is a book of original content focusing on the life of Henry Eugene Way during his military years, 1862-1864, and his participation in the American Civil War as a Union volunteer. The book includes a broad range of maps, photographs and drawings from that era, postal history with images of War time stationery, the history of Civil War locations where his letters were written, and copies of his letters completely transcribed with their mailing envelopes presented.

Other content includes letters written by his family, friends and military officers, chapters devoted to topics mentioned in his letters including the bounty system, sutlers as regulated by statute, military age regulations, and the pension system legislated for Civil War soldiers, all cross referenced to Henry Eugene Way’s letters which are numbered and dated as to location written.
